The Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée, in partnership with the États généraux du film documentaire, is organising a meeting around the development and production of first documentary films with professionals who work regularly on first film projects (schools, associations providing guidance, production companies, officials from aid funds).
Writing, developing, directing and producing a first film is a difficult exercise requiring the capacity to overcome additional obstacles. Nonetheless specific mechanisms exist which allow authors and producers to be trained, guided, and assisted all along the creative process.
The CNC is particularly attentive to first films and young authors for one of its missions is to ensure the renewal and diversity of French creation.
This meeting, moderated by Juliette Guigon, producer at Quark Productions, will be organised around the presentation (to be confirmed) of:
- workshops on the writing and development of projects, with the Writers' Residences at Lussas and the Documentary Workshop at the Femis;
- associations which advise film-makers, with the Groupe de Recherche et d'Essai Cinématographique (GREC) and Périphérie;
- producers' initiatives, with Quark Productions (France) and Faber Film (Italy);
- aid funds, with the Scam, a regional authority and the CNC.
This meeting will be followed the next day by a workshop on the development process of a first documentary film (Giacomino by Alessandro Comodin).
