For more than twenty years, the États généraux du film documentaire have gathered together in the village of Lussas people who reflect on, make, show, see, study and of course who love documentary. And there are many of them and some of them come from afar.
For more than twenty years, the genre has developed continuously, occupying new spaces of possible programming while appearing more strongly on the schedules of cinema art houses. The arrival of digital broadcasting is also an opportunity for documentary for it opens new windows, new possibilities of access and, who knows, new creators?
The unfailing success of the event is also due to the period, that time of the summer favourable both to activities of the intellect interspersed with moments of relaxation unless it be the other way round, open air projections, or screenings organised in an ever effective but friendly way in a welcoming and unpretentious environment like the square of a small Ardèche village.
The success of the event which contributes to Lussas' status as the fourth pole of cinema production in the Rhône-Alpes region is in the conjunction of all these factors. The merit is incontestably shared by the whole team from Ardèche Images who deserve warm congratulations.
The French Ministry of Culture and Communication is therefore happy to support, as in previous years, this new edition which promises a wealth of films, themes and debates.
I wish a new and resounding success for the 2009 opus of the États généraux du film documentaire, as well as fine discoveries for the participants who will be ever more numerous and satisfied.
