Youssef le gembri
Sylvain Piot
2016 - 39 min - Video Full HD - Couleur - France

Youssef, a gnawa musician and instrument maker, left Marocco a few years ago to come to France. His new challenge: to make a gembri in the streets of Paris, without any electric tools, "like it used to be".
Wood found in the street or in hardware stores, makeshift tools, camel skin brought over from Marocco, tradition and improvisation...
"You have to take care of your instrument as if it were a baby. If you do, then the sound will rise up and take hold of you".
