Gstaad, Behind the Scene
Élisabeth Aubert Schlumberger
2011 - 85 min - HDCam - Couleur - Suisse, France

The rustic charms of Gstaad and the surrounding countryside have been attracting celebrities and wealthy families for decades. Over the years, cranes and building sites have become part of the landscape and the villages have been expanding. The natives are feeling threatened by the growing invasion of their “guests” (Gäste), as they call them, and their increasing indifference to local traditions.
Christine, Walter, Andrea, Léonie and their families are farmers, carpenters, the manager of the Gstaad Palace hotel, a skiing instructor. As the seasons go by, we see them going about their everyday business, making no secret of their ambiguous relationship with these “Gäste”, who have become an indispensable source of income for them.
