A 150 years after its discovery of the first mine, the Lorraine region gets rid of the coal. The Lorraine Basin coalmines are closing the last two wells, in Freyming Merlebach (2003) and in la Houvre (2004).
"L'Adieu au charbon" retrace what were those coal years that gave birth to technological progress and allowed the building of our industrial society.
This Lorraine saga is also a way to pay homage to the miners and all of those that contributed to create a French industrial power.
