Victor Hugo, témoin de son temps Série-Collection : Histoire de France
Muriel Quesne
1997 - 16 min - 16 mm & Beta - Couleur - France
This is a portrait of Victor Hugo inspired by his political writings connected with his exile in Jersey and Guernsey and then his return to Paris.
The film is also based on his poetic and literary writings which deal with the rights of children, humanism and Victor Hugo's progressive interest in "The Socialist Republic".
Moreover, his talent as a painter is evoked thanks to pen drawings and watercolours. Through his picture work, Victor Hugo becomes a dreamy, fantastic character in contrast to the image of the writer and politician.
