Titkow asks Tadeusz Konwicki: "Do you believe in Man?" The author of the "Ascension" and the "Little Apocalypse" retorts: "Could you ask me more European questions?" There is a rapid stream of flashing images from twentieth-century history of Poland and the world - the historical memory of a fifty-eight-year-old writer.
The proportions between history and individual life are reversed: a Labor Day procession passes through a flat, Stalin speaks from a rostrum in the corner of a room, a rock band is playing, the writer's guests are drinking vodka. Konwicki watches it all from a distance.
