A Life Apart
( Anxieties in a Trawling Community )

Michael Grigsby
1973 - 65 min - Couleur - Royaume-Uni

A film about deep-sea fishermen trawling in Icelandic waters. Often compared to Grierson's Drifters in its lyrical tone and preoccupation with the terrible might of nature, this film has a clear political bite. The families left on shore share their bitterness at the fishermen's lack of rights and the fishermen themselves struggle in harsh conditions, sharply observed by Grigsby and his film crew.
