(A)fghanistan, un État impossible
Atiq Rahimi
2002 - 52 min - Vidéo - Couleur - France, Pays-Bas

In 1973, Daoud put an end to the monarchy of the king, Zahir Shah, who was his cousin and brother-in-law. My father, a monarchist, was put in jail. He used to repeat all the time that the state coup would remove the first “a” from Afghanistan. Afghanistan means “the land of Afghan”. Without the “a”, it becomes “fghanistan”, which means “the land of complaints and screams”!
This film is a trip throughout the last thirty years, to find my identity, my country and its destiny which has become the world’s destiny since September 11th, 2001.
