Zanskar, le chemin des glaces
Anne Lapied, Érik Lapied
2005 - 88 min - DV Cam - Couleur - France

In the borders of Himalaya, snow blocks the mountain passes at 5000 meters high and isolates totally the Zanskar's villages for some long months. But the frozen nights of January freeze the river which become for a few weeks the only connection with the external world.
The caravan of Stanzin and Tashi takes the risk to go on the hundred kilometres of the Path of the Ice. But this time, the ice is flimsy. It is necessary to sound it, to go into the water or to climb to the rocks.
Ice is alive, demanding and anything can happen.
150 men must deal with the cold, the river's whims and bivouac in the caves to transport wood in their villages.
One month later, before the debacle, Sakkya is on the way with his son and some children who for two of them are five years old. They're walking to go to school passing by the gorges of this mythical river.
More than a journey in a fantastic world made of rocks and ice, this trek with these three caravans
guide us really far, to the encounter of one of the most touching people of Himalaya.
An out of common trip which gives a joy of life with a strength and an upsetting beauty.
