Zaharoff
Faiseur de guerres
Angelos Abazoglou
2005 - 52 min - DV Cam - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - Grèce, Allemagne

Who Basil Zaharoff? The most powerful and cynical arms merchant of all times? The richest man on earth in the early 20th Century? A mysterious figure that hovered behind governments at the dawn of WWI? An armaments tycoon who knew how to manipulate the belligerents in order to sell weapons to both sides, as described by Hergé in Tintin’s adventure “The Broken Ear”? A character that tormented film directors such as Eisenstein or Orson Welles? Or simply a “Maker of Wars” that after the catastrophe of the Great War, was dubbed “The Merchant of Death”? Probably some of all that. But Basil Zaharoff, represents mainly an economical system that thinks of war as profitable, a system that linked till today the interests of dominant nations to the interests of arms industries.
