Wiz is 25 years old. He is about to be released from Attica penitentiary after serving 3 years for selling crack. He is black and a musician. He was born and grew up in the Bronx. He is a rap singer. In prison he was able to spend his time studying, to escape from the ghetto. He has become a Muslim and espoused the cause of black liberation.
On his release he returns to his home district, his family and his friends. Nothing has really changed.
The film is the portrait of this young musician, who immediately after his release finds himself torn between his past and his new identify as the fervent and militant Muslim he has become and wishes to remain. The camera follows him closely day by day over the first few months of his refound freedom, which be now finds frightening.
