Welcome to Paradise
Manuel Poutte, Florence Vandendorpe
2008 - 52 min - DV Cam - Couleur - Belgique

This film deals with the arrival and settling in the United States of Fosia and Aden, two Somali Ashrafs, who spent more than 15 years in a refugee camp in northwest Kenya. A young man and girl among so many others, displaced under the auspices of the UN and the IOM (International Organization for Migration).
Their story exemplarily illustrates the fate of millions of other refugees who, under political or economic pressures, must sacrifice their culture and life style for a theoretically "better life".
We follow Fosia and Aden, from their daily life in the Kakuma refugee camp until their settling and integration in their new homeland. Portrait of an exile that raises questions about the main values of our western civilization.
