Truth: Lost at Sea

In 2010, a group of activists and concerned citizens from dozens of countries came together and worked against some of the strongest powers on earth to alleviate the suffering of fellow human beings half a world away. The odds seemed insurmountable.
They came together to launch the Freedom Flotilla, a convoy of civilian humanitarian ships aiming to highlight the suffering of Palestinians in illegally-blockaded Gaza, break this blockade and alleviate the people’s plight there. Israel attacked the Flotilla at night in the Mediterranean Sea, killing ten activists, and wounding and imprisoning hundreds more of international participants. This historic event transformed into a battle for the hearts and minds of the world.
Shot from aboard the Freedom Flotilla, directed and narrated by one of its survivors and following up on the media coverage that ensued, "The Truth: Lost at Sea" reveals how the Israeli navy attacked the civilian ships in international waters, and how the dead activists and their comrades who defended their vessels were portrayed in the aftermath.
The film tells the story of the flotilla preparations and launch, with concerned citizens from around the globe coming together on a life-changing voyage to alleviate the suffering of strangers a world apart. It shows the Israeli attack upon their flotilla, with both footage that was broadcast and more that was smuggled off the ships, and analyses the claims of the Israeli spokespersons. These claims are juxtaposed with the survivors’ tale and statements before, during and after the attack, including some never-before-seen footage from aboard the vessels prior to the attack.
"The Truth: Lost at Sea" reveals the stark contrast between what really happened and how it was spun in traditional and online media outlets, resulting in the perpetuation of impunity for crimes committed.
