Taïga, terre des chamans
Marc Garanger, Catherine Garanger
1997 - 52 min - Beta digital - Couleur - France

In the heart of the Russian federation there is the world's pole of cold. It drops to minus 73 degrees in winter, often more than thirty degrees in the middle of summer.
In this Far-Eastern Siberia, covered by an immense forest, the taïga, lives a tiny people of 15,000 souls, the Evenkis, ancestors of the American Indians.
Can they still survive in spite of Russian colonization and the serious dangers of pollution ? Is this forest only a frozen waste or is it a strange universe full of spirits and shamans ?
With this film we discover shamanism, one of the most ancient beliefs of humanity, which allows man to live in harmony with "Mother Nature".
Five people help us in this adventure, Spartak the hunter, Sergueï the school teacher, Ivan the story-teller, Anatoli the ethnologist and Savili the great shaman.
