There are many Silk Roads in history - the Turkish team followed the northern route, which mostly passes along Turkish speaking countries. Setting out from Xian, historically the starting point for Silk Road journeys, they passed through the Gansu and Xinkiang regions of western China, and then on to Kyrghyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran respectively, entering Dogubeyazit in eastern Turkey before ending up in Istanbul.
Throughout the expedition, the caravan carried personal letters about this historical journey written by President Suleyman Demirel on kid skin as was done by caravans in ancient times and delivered to the presidents of the countries visited by the team.
