In three parts, this film examines the history of immigrant hostels in France and the men who inhabit them. First of all, a history of these structures is proposed from the fifties through to the 1997 announcement to transform them into blocks of bachelor flats, so-called "social residences". The second part looks at this transformation in terms of surface area, price and common facilities. And the third part examines the status of residents from the point of view of the law, pointing out much needed changes to bring their rights in line with those of ordinary tenants.
