Les Revenants
La Diaspora du vaudou en Afrique
Charles Najman
1993 - 61 min - Vidéo - Couleur - France

The Ouidah Festival was the inspiration for a unique film : the return to Ouidah, sacred African voodoo town, of its children scattered on to the American continent through slavery. The Festival is indeed an important occasion for Benin : to welcome on African soil the diaspora, its black diaspora, and to reunite it around one of the central elements of its common patrimony - voodoo : a religion born in Benin and perpetuated in the New World after the great slave deportation.
This is also the time to grapple with slavery's taboo subject. We heard words of guilt, remorse, forgiveness... Three key words define this film : Confrontation - Dialogue - Emotion.
