Le Maroc inventé par la photographie Série-Collection : Le Maroc et les Artistes
Sylvain Roumette
1999 - 52 min - Betacam - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France
A film about Morocco, this film is also – and perhaps firstly – a film about the image of Morocco. Is it the image in the strictest sense, since it concerns the photographic image of this country, but also in the wider sense of representation, that the photographers who have followed each other there for a little over a century show us of Morocco ? Is there a break or continuity between the pictures of a certain exotic tradition, those of the colonial vision, concerned with picturesque and orientalist strangeness, and the modern pictures of contemporary photographers more concerned with human truth and the value of testimony ?
Those are the questions that go through the film, built essentially around the figures of a few Moroccan and French photographers whose work is specially linked to the exploration of Morocco.
