Kassel. Germany. The 1930s. Of all the girls in the same class, the fate of seven pupils got caught in the wheels of history. Those were the seven Jewish girls in the class.
Catherine Bernstein set off in search of these "absent ones" in the various countries to which they emigrated to flee Nazism.
One of them remained and perished in a concentration camp. The others recount their exile, their feelings in relation to Germany and their former classmates who, as far as some of them are concerned, subscribed to Nazism...
