The Rules of I
Anne de Giafferri
2016 - 52 min - Full HD - Couleur - France

Three years after being born, a child comes to life again, as he/she starts school for the first time.
This is a fascinating time when a child learns to say "I" and has to fit within a group.
Anne de Giaferri spent a year at U Rustincu school in Furiani, Corsica, in a French-Corsican bilingual classroom with teacher Valérie Casalta, where she filmed children in their first year of nursery school. She was able to observe them as they learn about life, language, culture and school, recording their first impressions on this journey, in real time.
As members of the audience, we too get to watch these children closely, sitting on tiny chairs, in a crouching position on the edge of beds, at eye level with the washbasins.
We then have access to the fabulous story of a child's world - a unique story towards self-discovery and understanding of others, thus experiencing a society in the making.
