La Gaspille
Alphonse Perreault
1995 - 26 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France

In the North-East of the province of Québec in Canada dies out the "Gaspesian Peninsula". This beautiful and touristic countryside stands on two economic poles : fishery and forestry. Today, the fishing industry has been momentarily stopped for a period of five years on account of overfishing due mainly to foreign intervention in the golf area with disproportionate factory fishing units. Therefore the forestry industry would seem to be the outlet to secure the local economy !
This documentary focus on this new perspective and reveal an undergoing deforestation and most of all an outstanding waste of timber : over 500 kilometers (ten meters wide x five meters high). "Millions of dollars down the drain".
This very peculiar situation has never been filmed before and strangely enough is completely unknown in Québec.
