The Man who Wanted to Move a Mountain
Jean-François Delassus
2013 - 53 min - XDCAM - France

A huge, gaping hole pierces the centre of Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso. Deep down, a swarming human anthill offers a unique spectacle in today's world. Two thousand people crushing the hardest of stones: granite. Men extracting big blocks from the rock with their bare hands. Women, the elderly and children crushing them to pebbles. Toddlers picking up the flints and reduce them to sand. Everything is sold, even the dust.
Yet, this cauldron bubbles with a gaiety that negates any complaint; a place where laughter counters tears. In this dazzling place of solidarity and humanity, an individual's story of titanic ambition unfolds with an uncertain outcome.
