L'Exil à Sedan
Michaël Gaumnitz
2002 - 52 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France

This is the extraordinary story of a German family (mine) who, at my father’s instigation, left Dresden (former East Germany) just after the war and went into exile in Sedan, in the French Ardennes, crucible of a hereditary anti-German hatred.
What did my father go to this hostile country for ? He never spoke about it, sank into alcoholism, exposed his family to humiliations, shame, loss of identity. Up to our necks in debt, my family returned to Germany, West Berlin, in 1964.
In this film I would like to take a look at this story, come out of a crushing silence, a fear that continues to haunt my life.
