Illegal abortions, clandestine abortions : always the violence, sometimes death. The right to abortion demanded during the first world war for women raped by the Germans. Abortion as treason during the second world war ; everything has been said, everything and anything. Abortion, the central issue in women's rights ; abortion, the crime of modernity : this film deals with essential questions.
The battle is waged in society and in Parliament. In 1974, Simone Veil throws herself into the fray, succeeding in pushing through a law liberalizing abortion. More than 20 years later, the backlash is still sometimes violent.
But the law is now widely accepted. Yet abortion is still painful, a woman's choice of giving life and death.
