L'Arbre et le Feu
Daniel Derenne
2007 - 52 min - DV Cam - Couleur - France

In Madagascar, fire is a gift of God. It is much more than an old technique to conquest lands from the forest in order to plant rice. It is a sacred connection. For modern societies, fire is a major ecological catastrophe. It has to be controlled if we do not want the Earth to be even more damaged. Through the voice of the tree, very old witness of the Red island history, this documentary exposes us the very different perception of nature a Malagasy tribe living in the forest and American Scientifics who wants to "save the world" have. Marovita, the sorcerer, talks about his vision of the world, a magical perception we do not know. We listen to Patricia Wright, a primatologist, who praises Science and forest survival as well as its lemurs. And we ask ourselves along with the tree if, one day, these people will sit together and communicate with respect.
