L'Affaire Markovic Série-Collection : Passé sous silence

Reynold Ismard
2001 - 52 min - Betacam SP - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

On 1 October 1968, Stefan Markovic, a young Yugoslav, a friend of the Delons, was found assassinated. A rumour quickly began to circulate : the assassination of Markovic was alleged to aim at protecting the reputation of people in high positions. Publically Claude Pompidou was named, the wife of Georges Pompidou, candidate to succeed General De Gaulle.
During the presidential election campaign, the affair, endlessly sustained with new revelations, was the object of political manipulations designed to destabilise the candidate Pompidou. This politico-legal serial had France holding her breath until Pompidou was elected President of the Republic.
Like other big news items, the Markovic affair, with its fantastic developments and details, is indicative of the state of French society after May 1968 and historically marks the end of a political era dominated by General De Gaulle.
