Who is John Arthur Geall ? Who was this English writer, dead in 1966, who for some strange reason —out of cowardice, desperation or maybe as a challenge— deliberately consigned his own apparently insignificant and yet prodigious body of work to an indifferent fate? That this author is still unknown today is a testimony to his ambitions: rather than chase after fame, which he recognised as vain and ephemeral, he sought instead to appease his tormented mind through the power of literature, and literature alone.
