The film would like to diagnose are the feelings of failure and vulnerability that emerge after the end of a relationship and it does so by sharing, like in the public square, the fears and insecurities that make relationships so complex and fragile.
I Wanna Sleep With You begins four months after I decided to leave my partner. The freedom I reclaimed brought with it insomnia; a constant wakefulness in which the import of what I thought I would find outside my relationship with Sergio dissolved. So I began shooting the lives and relationships of couples I knew well hoping to retrace the symptoms of freedom I had felt that led me to choose being on my own over a relationship. The film is a journey in search of the solutions we implement to overcome solitude.
Roberto and Silvia, Gabriele and Steve, Paolo and Michele are three couples that bare themselves in the film and share their most intimate experiences. They talk about problems and individualism, the fear of loving someone and the discovery of new ways to be in a relationship. The film also features the stories of Alessandra who boxes up the past, and Luca who casts himself in the future. These may be the characters through which the path of my film unwinds, but the indestructible couple that is my parents, Simona and Rolando, a cumbersome paragon of moral integrity and unyielding pragmatism with no room for debate, is the shore from which my journey began.
