Today in Brittany, an "Icelandic" is a shipman from Paimpol or Binic, and not at all an Iceland inhabitant. Between 1850 and 1930, two thousand "Icelandics" have disappeared during cod's fishing campaign. For us, "Pêcheurs d'Islande" by Pierre Loti is the reference. His hero, Yann Gaos, the Breton type fisherman, never gets a foothold on the island. However the proofs of Breton presence in Iceland are numerous, yet today.
How surprising is the richness of information that shows the confrontation of both cultures, despite in Brittany this exchange is totally minimised, indeed ignored.
