The film retraces the changes in the status of wage-earners from 1906 to present times. These past hundred years witnessed the birth of protective labour rights, social security, pensions, paid holidays, unlimited-length work contracts, etc. The improvements in the wage-earners' status were obtained through struggles and economic and political changes.
But for thirty years now, this protective status has been at risk. Mass unemployment, labour flexibility, precarious postings and threatened social welfare: the wage-earners' world has entered a period of turmoil.
Is the time of progress already over, has the era of regression started ?
