Guy Georges : autopsie d'une traque
Alain Lasfargues
2002 - 52 min - DV Cam & Beta num - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

For seven years, up to 1998, a serial killer terrorised the east of Paris. He killed seven young women and raped many others...
It took as many years of investigation before being able to arrest him. This film relates this almost accursed hunt, so fertile was it in bad luck and in missed opportunities.
Alain Lasfargues’ documentary traces from the inside the ups and downs of this very particular investigation. To do this, he uses a method not often used by French documentary makers : reconstitution. In black and white, staged with the intention of achieving the greatest realism possible, these quasi-fiction sequences serve as a counterpoint to interviews with the main protagonists of the case.
Police commissioner Patrick Riou, former chief of the crime squad, examining magistrate Gilbert Thiel, in charge of the enquiry and doctor Olivier Pascal, legal expert specialised in DNA analysis contribute their stories, while Anne Gauthier, mother of a victim, and William Bourdon, counsel for the plaintiff, evoke the way the investigation was experienced by those who impatiently awaited its results.
