Foire franche aux Bécus
Dominique Garing
1993 - 26 min - Betacam - Couleur - France

Maurice and Louise Chabod have been farmers at the place called "Les Bécus" in the Haut-Doubs for thirty years. They have no children and so no one to "take-over the farm". The couple have therefore no alternative to the problem of the milk quotas, their pre-retirement is imminent. They must give their place up to other young farmers and have resigned themselves to "leaving the land". They decided to make their departure seem a celebration by organising a free fair, that is an auction sale of the livestock, the agricultural machinary and the hay.
In this documentary, we touch on all the problems facing the rural world today and especially that of European restrictions on milk production. We have caught at first hand, before the sale, the interrogations, the passions and the emotions it arouses.
