Manon de Boer

Manon de Boer invited the pianist Jean-Luc Fafchamps to play John Cage's composition 4’33" twice before a public. Once in a single take, the camera records his execution of this “silent musical composition”. For the second execution, Manon de Boer cuts the sound intervening only with the click of a timer in the 4'33” of filmed performance. The camera moves in a long tracking shot that begins on Jean-Luc Fafchamps, continues to examine each member of the public before finishing on the studio window.
