In America and during his European tour with Jimmy Smith, nicknamed "the Incredible", the mythical jazz pianist capable of playing his electronic organ (a Hammond B3) like no one else. More than a portrait of James Oscar Smith (1925-2005), Klaus Wildenhahn's film is amongst the first documentaries of "direct" filmmaking to take an interest in the daily life of an artist, in music as work embedded in an economic process, and towards industry and society as a whole. But the musical pieces are also magnificently shot by Rudolf Körösi, capable of being in tune with jazz improvisation and of really make the viewer's eyes dance to the rhythm of his hearing. It is truly direct cinema at the nth level.
