Autumn 1967. Jørgen Leth and Ole John left for Nepal to film hippies who had settled down on a piece of land and proclaimed it a free state. The hippies plod around like marionettes in a fantastic setting of Buddhist temples and local populace. Their dreams and expectations seem to have lost all direction and aim. They smoke a huge chillum with their guru, a holy man, and they sit together smoking in a circle. One fellow engagedly demonstrates how he eats LSD, then staggers on in his hippie paradise. Leth does not conceal how they were impacted by their surroundings. Not even the shots of daily life in Kathmandu or the experimental camera and editing work can shake off that feeling.
