Tojinbo, a small resort on the north coast of Japan. At night, after the tourists have left, other human shapes appear on the rocks: those of individuals looking to commit suicide. Yukio Shige is a retired policeman, who patrols these cliffs several times a day, seeking out distressed people to try and convince them not to jump. The film follows him on his last round of the day.
