La Fenêtre ouverte, 1952, follows the evolution of the landscape in Western painting from mediaeval times to the impressionists. An imposing compilation: fifty-nine masterworks were filmed from museums of the five signatory countries of the Treaty of Brussels. Over a sobre commentary by Jean Cassou, the film demonstrates how the process of interaction between diverse cultures, borrowing and reciprocal influence of styles and their possible assimilation, open up a new pictorial language, richer and more vigorous.
