The protagonist of Krystyna M. is "a young female worker in Ursus who became dear to me because of the sheer determination and perseverance with which she embarked on her adult life, and the sincerity with which she then talked about it" Karabasz wrote in his book Reading Time. This complex and independent girl, who begins her adult life in a big town far from her home village, resembles other characters from Karabasz's documentaries, whose beliefs and desires often come into conflict with harsh reality.
