Ten weeks with the workers engaged in building a silos tower near Oldenburg. Far from their families, almost in a "foreign land" (as the title puts it), they work more than twelve hours a day. Klaus Wildenhahn, with his cameraman and his sound technician, films their daily lives, the happy moments and those of tension. He reduces commentary to the minimum, he "finds a chronology" keeping unity of time, space and action, and pushes filmmaking beyond the limits of dramaturgy and psychology, towards the grey areas, the breaks, free time, the apparently insignificant details. When direct cinema broadens the confines of the world as we perceive.
