Dušan Hanák encounters old Slovakian peasants photographed by Martin Martincek and asks them what values, in their opinion, gave meaning to their lives. The film gives voice to these old people who have kept or acquired with age, in spite of their solitude and extremely harsh living conditions, a sense of the essential. "It is a film on the moral strength and interior beauty of our grand-fathers, values often missing in humanity today." (Dušan Hanák)
