"Poetical documentary" (Klaus Wildenhahn) that contaminates the love for direct cinema with complex editing, and interacts with the avant-garde documentaries by Harun Farocki, Hartmut Bitomsky and, in particular, Peter Nestler. Using both fixed and moving pictures, landscapes and interviews, quotations (from Pliny the Elder to Hanns Eisler), to undermine official history and tell the political and economic story of the Emden area, once industrialized by Volkswagen and now under the threat of the factory’s relocation. Klaus Wildenhahn and Gisela Tuchtenhagen had already dedicated a masterpiece in four parts to the workers of this factory: Emden geht nach USA. The film title is derived from a quotation by Hubert Wiedfeld, a radio playwright.
