Shot in exterior along the banks of the Po, Michelangelo Antonioni's first documentary depicts the life of the inhabitants of Porto Tolle. “That is my sole presumption: to have taken alone the path of neo-realism. We were in 1943. Visconti was filming Ossessione on the banks of the Po, and still on the Po, a few kilometres away, I was shooting my documentary.” A masterpiece.
