Lena Constante was arrested in 1948 by the romanian Secret Service. She was charged with espionage and treason. The main accused of what was to become the biggest show trial in romanian history, was Lucretiu Patrascanu, former minister of justice and member of the communist party. Under permanent physical and psychological torture, Lena Constante was forced to sign incriminating documents against Patrascanu and herself. Patrascanu was sentenced to death, Lena Constante spent twelve years in jail, eight of them in solitary detention.
