1990-1991 - Allemagne - Couleur - 90'
Shot between the USSR, Norway, Finland and Sweden, Die Nordkalotte crisscrosses the region where the Samis live (mistakenly called Lapland) to document the pillage of a territory, a people and a culture – and to make an observation on modern times. Particularly interested in indigenous cultures, Nestler meets some of the Samis who are resisting industrialisation. A devastating film that Nestler dedicated to his friends and filmmakers Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. 16 mm projection
