Made from twenty-eight photographs from a Berlin archive collection acquired by Swedish television in 1985, period documents and music by Arnold Schönberg and Anton Webern, this short film explores one particular “catastrophe of rationalisation” among many others: the death of several dozen miners in a village of Lower Silesia three years before the Nazi party came to power in 1933. At the heart of reason nests the irrational.
