This documentary reconstructed the battle of Culloden and the atrocities which followed. The last battle fought on British soil, Culloden saw the final defeat of the Scottish Jacobite forces in 1746. As in the later The War Game, Peter Watkins broke all the conventions, using a cast of non-actors, drawn from the residents of Inverness, and employing verité techniques.
