The film tells the story of the Cold War through the prism of its least known arena: Africa. The African continent was the battleground for no less than four adversaries, each with a well defined and often conflicting interest : the Soviets, the United States, the Colonial powers and the newly independent nations which attempted for the first time to gain real control of their own countries. By uniting in a sort of "third bloc" they fought in the name of a new ideal: internationalism. Ironically, it was to Cuba’s new regime that the young African revolutionaries turned for support in their struggle. Castro’s tiny island emerged as central player in this new strategy. Cuba, an Arican Epic attempts to understand the world today through the saga of these internationalists who won every battle but finally lost the war.
