Child in Time is a dialogue between the film director Kai Nordberg and his father. To all appearances, the openness between them is uncustomary. The father explains his guiding principle with the example of how poison lodged in sediment is harmless if left undisturbed; only if we dig into the ground and poke around at it does poison become dangerous. The son takes the opposite tack: things that we repress eat at us. These two outlooks clash at the outset. Initially holding back, the son ends up finding surprising parallels between their lives.
