Dirk Alvermann was only eighteen years old when he went to Algeria in 1955, in the middle of the war. Alongside the National Liberation Front, he discovered what makes up the reality of any war: the victims and refugees. He gave an account of this experience in the photographs featured in his book Algeria, which was published in 1960, and then in 1961 in this film, Algerische Partisanen.

In the absence of a film print, we have the exceptional opportunity of presenting a digital print of the film thanks to the help and authorisation of Dirk Alvermann’s son.
